4 sure fire tips on how to stay consistent in 2018

Wednesday, 3 January 2018

Ah! I think this is one of the most difficult things any human being can do and those who have mastered it are geniuses. Trust me.

In 2017 I struggled with this a lot and I am not about to let this be my testimony this year, I found a few useful tips ( from people who have mastered the art of being consistent, you know I'd not just conjure something and bring it here)

Let me know which one you will apply and how things turn out in the year.

Tip 1 - Keep your eyes on the WHY

This is the reason why you are asked to write goals and the same reason vision boards are working magic for people. You need to have something constantly reminding you of your goals because you can't trust your mind to remember these things every time.

'Want to go abroad for your masters? Create a sticky note on your desktop with the name of your university and proposed graduation date.  This is bound to keep you on your toes.

Tip 2- Ignore the voice that says you can't do it

Quick story, sometime in 2017 I was not happy with my weight. Not that I was fat or anything but I knew I had added a few pounds and I needed to drop them. Now, I have always thought of myself as being fit; maybe because of the occasional exercise I do and the few times I refuse to drink coke but I had never followed through with any exercise plan so when I told people I wanted to loose weight, I heard all sorts ; that thing is hard, forget it Dotun you can't loose anything, Be happy with who you are..Lol!

At a point I began doubting the whole thing but I enrolled with a fitness coach and I can say that the rest is history.

Moral of the story? You'd sometimes doubt yourself, you'd most times not feel like it but then once you know this is the right thing to do,  just do it. If we allow our emotions control us every time we  may never get this done. Nobody feels inspired and motivated everyday but that's not an excuse.

Tip 3- Breakup with your perfectionist spirit

It's like I am talking to myself as I am saying this. Most of us have issues with being consistent because we sometimes feel what we offer is not good enough and so we just stop completely. There were times in 2017 I didn't post on the  blog because I felt the post was not great! While we have to maintain a standard we must understand that it is okay not to be on your best side every time but you still gotta show up. I am sure some of those blog posts I didn't post would still have blessed someone. If you are struggling to get everything right every time you may not get anything done.

Tip 4- Don't do too many things

You want to post more on your blog, learn photography, improve your graphic design skills, start your vlog, get a new job, start your masters  all in the same year! Chill. I'm not saying these things are not achievable but have like two or three you'd focus on per time. so that your attention is not too divided.

I'd end with this wise word from Gary Keller's The One Thing:

Success demands singleness of purpose. You need to be doing fewer things for more effect instead of doing more things with side effects. It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world.

Cheers to a year of consistency!

Feel free to share this post with your friends oh and let me know what tip has worked for you in the past or which one you would love to try!

Much Love
