Today, I’m celebrating the Beautified Network – My volunteering experience

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! How are you doing today?

I hope you can already feel my excitement from my greeting o. Like I said here, I was at the Becoming Conference 2016 on Saturday and calling it a blast would be an understatement. But I like the way Funto put it, she said God totally slayed the event.

The Becoming flower wall ( I'm not sure there was anyone who didn't love this!)

I have always heard that volunteering was rewarding and I had read  testimonies of the great opportunities that came with volunteering so I was interested in trying it. I didn’t just know what event it would be.
I remember going for the first edition of the Becoming conference and even before it was over I made up my mind to serve in whatever way I could. I wanted to be a part of the team that helps women and young ladies on their path to becoming all that God has called them to be.

I learnt a whole lot volunteering for the Beautified Network and its my pleasure to share them with you. Are you ready to learn?

Let me first say I met new people and trust me meeting new people is not my specialty. I tend to become mute when I'm surrounded by so many strangers (I know I’m not alone in this.) But since I volunteered, I knew I had already entered it.

Sometimes you’ve got to go out of your way to do things that you’ve not done before especially if you want a different result. Remember how we talked about shyness not being cool in this post? Well, volunteering was a good way to crush it and I did my best.

I was able to serve in my own tiny way. If there’s anything I have learnt from my role models it is that service is one of the best ways to bless somebody’s life. Since the day I read the story about Funto and Gaisebaba on Bella Naija 2014 Christmas evening, I had been a stalker, at first I wanted to send her an email asking her to be my mentor ( in fact I think I did) I just loved her. But then I saw a post on twitter where she said she gets so many emails from people asking for mentorship but she can’t mentor everyone.

That day I was like so what will people like us do now? She later talked about the fact that one of the best ways to get and maintain a good relationship with your mentor is by being useful to them and I did just that (at least I tried).

Volunteering gave me the opportunity to glean from a lot of people. Let me just say this. It is one thing to know people on social media and a completely different thing to know them personally. I remember always sneaking into Funto’s Instagram page every night while I was serving even though I was not on Instagram yet. I would go via my browser and just check all she had posted that day. Somehow I had an impression of how I thought Funto would look and act, assertive and probably with one British accent but the day I saw her, I saw a young woman who was just like me or anyone of us but knew she was going somewhere. In the short period in which I have known her, I have learnt about attention to detail, respect for other people’s opinion and humility.

The Beautified Network Team and a few volunteers

I saw what it means to have a team of ladies who support you and your dream. Funto has real friends! People who run with the vision like it’s theirs and do it selflessly. Everyone needs a team. You cannot do everything on your own. Thank you to Funto’s friends, I would have mentioned your names but I don’t want to miss out any name. You guys have redefined what real friendship is about.

I learnt what it means to solely depend on God and simply prepare yourself for the miracles to come. I learnt that God never leaves His own stranded. God never slacks when it comes to showing up for His people. If you have a dream, don’t wait for the money to come, as long as it’s in accordance with God’s will run with it, the provision will come. I know stories of so many people who decided to run with the vision God gave them and today they are doing great things. You can read this STORY too

I learnt that no matter what it is you desire it is possible. Your dreams are valid.

I know some of you  missed the conference so this recap is for you. Come back here to thank me o.

There will be DVDs for the various sessions during the conference so if you want to get one keep following the Beautified Network.

Have you ever volunteered before? What was your experience like? I think volunteering is cool plus I worked with an amazing team! Shout out to every volunteer of the Becoming conference 2016. You guys are amazing.

Loads of love
