So you think you have an excuse?

How are you doing today?

If you are like me then you must probably believe in having everything planned out 6 months before the date of execution. Some of us just feel like we have to plan to avoid unforeseen circumstances or any unplanned situations. Who wants to be embarrassed?

I remember the day I was to launch this blog officially. I had planned out everything, the blog was designed, the first post was ready three weeks before the launch date but few hours to the launch time, I felt like something was tying my intestines, I was shaking, I think my head was even spinning because I couldn’t see clearly. No joke.

Somewhere in my head a voice was trying to convince me to postpone the launch of the blog to a later date when everything would be fully ready. Which one is fully ready again? All manner of ‘reasons’ were flying in my head. I told my sister that I would postpone the launch because I didn’t like the design, I told her I didn’t think the post was good enough and I had not done enough ‘publicity.’

I was ready to go on and on with my plenty reasons not to launch. But deep down I was just scared of the outcome, will people even read it? What if I get negative comments? (God knows I used to dread negative comments, ok scratch that, I dread negative comments!). The fear was the one causing all the drama in my stomach.

You know how you want to use seemingly legit excuses to cover up fear. It maybe that you want to go for that singing competition and you have convinced yourself that you are not as pretty as the ladies that competed last year, or do you want to pitch for a big contract but you’re scared you don’t have the qualifications so you just decide that you can try next time.

We all have moments when fear stifles us, it gives us a reason to chicken out and resign to fate. Fear has a list of reasons why we should not. The best solution is to do it afraid. Don’t give in to fear. The excuses shouldn’t be good enough to stop you. Don't you know that you can never plan enough for some of the decisions you’ll make in life? There are some things you will find out by yourself only when you have started. If you are waiting for the perfect moment you may have to wait the rest of your life.

If you want to be a renowned writer start writing, enough of talking about it. Nobody is interested in reading the grand ideas in your head, (who has time for that these days?) Do you want to be a singer, why don’t you try going for the next singing competition, even if you do not make it to the finals, you’ll get expert advice on your singing skill and that is progress.

If you want to be a great, then be great. Great people live life intentionally, live your life intentionally, great people improve themselves every day, do the same. Don’t just talk, act. We are tired of mere talkers, who don’t live up to their words. Do something today.

  1. I couldn't agree with you less... The fear of starting is really great and it aims to stop you from achieving that dream...
Not quite long today as I was picking beans outside my mum's shop an idea just dropped in my head then my mind began to visualize it long term... It was about having a Facebook page(I don't really know how it works though, I just came yo my head sha) where I would share some of the inspirations I get about life, people etc, to inspire, motivate and communicate also with people as is my dream always.
My Mb had expired some 3 or 4 days ago and wasn't bothered as to when I would subscribe but immediately I got that idea I just knew I had to start something even if I don't have an elaborate plan about how it would all go( I guess it is because I am a kind of person that if I plan something for too long, I get all lazy about it and would end up not doing it eventually). All I have is that vision in my head hopefully I would come up with plan soonest.

I have not been here in a long while... I I guess I came to get some insights for the planning of the activities of my page but this first post I saw is JUST FOR ME!
I find it very motivating. Thank you Dotun
